Penciled page of Power Horse

This is a preview of a page from my Power Horse comic. It's taking awhile to get the first issue done, but I'm full steam ahead on the pencils. On this page, we see a lone horse watching the destruction of Citytonburg and being none too pleased, when his rider jumps on him and orders him to get a move on. It's time to save the city, and Decoy and Retribution Ranger are answering the call!  Stay tuned for more from Power Horse!

Power Horse unveiled!

Behold! Power Horse! The horse with HORSE POWER! Colored version soon to follow! As a reminder, this is the first place that anyone has seen Power Horse. That's because I created this character and theft will not be tolerated. Please respect my characters.

Storyboards for issue #1 in the works today. Then I am planning a full reboot of all Power Horse titles. I am calling this reboot The New 52 week lag project. Stay tuned for more Power Horse and more HORSE POWER!

Hellboy finds a pokeball.

Ok, my computer has officially gone rogue, so I didn't have all of the adobe capabilities that I normally would. Sorry for the rudimentary coloring job.

An old Psylocke drawing

Since there's no new art of mine to choose from, I dug up and old one. It's rare that I don't draw from a picture, and that bugs me, because I tend to finish drawings if they are conjured from my own imagination. Don't bother telling me about the problem with the proportion in the legs. I'm aware. If you can't see it, then yay for me.

Rockabilly Saraswati

Done with good ol' nib and ink well on vellum. This is the Hindu goddess Saraswati if she were rockabilly. 8" x 10"

An old photoshop morph I did for a class when we were learning about layer masks. Kind of sloppy when I look at what I can do now. You used to be cool, Milla Jovovich.

Shiloh - Charcoal

I did this for my wife's aunt for christmas. Her beagle passed last year and I thought it would be thoughtful. I didn't expect her to cry so much. I don't have access to the photo here at work, but I liked the reference picture quite a bit because she looks like she is smiling. This is the second time I've drawn a dog, and both times happened to be beagles. They're really fun to draw because the usually have such good variation in value in the fur on their backs. I have a black cat at home that I'm afraid to try to draw because she really has no difference in value. It would be quite a challenge.

Poison Ivy

Ivy    12 " x 16 " Graphite
I feel bad calling this my art because I copied it from a Terry Dodson sketch of a statue concept.

I did graph it out, so I was basically drafting his sketch. I would call it cheating.

I find it very difficult to sit down and just draw from my own mind most of the time. I can draw other people's characters without hesitation, but it's an exercise in frustration to try to draw an original.

I think this is because I have so many artists that I admire with vastly differing techniques that it has become jumbled for me, making it very challenging to have a style of my own. The ACEO's I've been posting are as close as it gets to freeform. It's still someone else's character, though.

The Greats - Josh Middleton

This is a first in a series of commentaries I would like to make a habit of doing on some of my favorite artists. The first artist I would like to mention is Josh Middleton <--click, it's his website. Go on. Do it.
Add caption

Joshua Middleton is somewhat of a mystery to me still. I have only one comic that he has done both interior and cover art for. After seeing this comic, I was very taken by his artwork. It is very dynamic. You can tell he has drawn from life more than your average comic illustrator. His foreshortening is incredible. I hate trying to foreshorten. It makes me feel like such a beginner.
May I also note that he pencils, inks, and digitally colors all of his own work. The dream of any illustrator is to be fully self-sufficient and complete a work from pencils to print. Middleton just has an amazing talent for composition. Every work has it's own sense of life and motion. Viewing his work is like viewing a freeze-frame of the conception of his idea for the drawing. He is currently illustrating for Supergirl, and I would go so far as to buy a DC comic to see more Middleton, and if you read my other blog you will know that I exclusively read Marvel.
It's artists like this that make me lean towards the dark side.

Phoenix pinup doodle

Phoenix #1 - 4" x 6" CHARCOAL
For some reason, mine turned out looking like she was on ecstasy. I do not know who the artist is who did the original, but it's pretty awesome. As long as it doesn't turn out to be Greg Land or something. I'm not exactly sure why, but I loath that guy. Well, maybe we'll give her another try.

Rogue #1 pencil

Here's a random drawing by me. I have a hard time sharing my art, so please don't be harsh.

Have markers, will freak out

So I finally(after about ten years of wanting) got a decent set of prismacolor markers to play with. I have yet to really figure out how to use them. Color is a relatively new concept for me, and markers are a foreign language. They are, however, essential to the type of illustration I wish to master.
If anyone has a direction to point me in for tips or tutorials, I would be very appreciative.
